Great News: All those seller-unfriendly changes made
earlier this year are rebounding on eBay! They are losing
sellers to other companies charging much lower listing
fees, notably Amazon and countless online auction sites.
Some sites, including Amazon, charge little or nothing to
list your products - sellers only cough up when a sale is
actually made. On eBay combined upfront and final
selling fees represent a huge chunk of profits from items
that do sell, not forgetting eBay also charges high listing

fees for items that don't actually sell. 

 

It has to be said, eBay is (currently) only reducing listing
fees for fixed price 'Buy It Now' items, not auctioned
items - yet - but it's definitely a move for the better for
those of us seeing most of our profit margins being

gobbled up by eBay.

 

The change happens on September 24th and eBay will
be providing more detailed information in the next few

days.

 

eBay also said they will not be charging for gallery
illustrations for products listed on eBay although the

exact date for the change is not known. 

 

Currently gallery listing is free on eBay, as a summer
incentive, and it could be the charge will not be

reinstated before the freebie deadline arrives.

 

A spokesman for eBay said: "Today's improvements will
remove barriers for sellers. We're reducing the upfront
risk to listing 'buy-it-now' items on eBay.co.uk, by making
the fees increasingly success-based for our sellers and
improving their prominence alongside auction on the

site."

 

But wait, before you start celebrating, that mention of
'making fees increasingly success-based' makes me
wonder just how much higher final selling fees are likely
to go, given final selling fees are already performance
based and grow in line with actual prices achieved on

eBay. 

 

Don't get the champagne out yet! Leave it with me for
now, I'll spend a little longer researching this recent
news and report back as soon as more information is
available.

A Five-Year-Old Child Causes Havoc on eBay

The news is rife today about a five-year-old who bid

£200,000 for a Nintendo Wii on eBay.

 

The grandfather whose eBay account the child used to
place the bid considers the whole thing hilariously funny,
as does the boy's mother who tells how the boy bid on
an old car a short while back but was stopped before the

bid actually went through.

 

Fabulously funny, couldn't you just die laughing?

 

Actually, no, I couldn't even raise a grin when I heard the
story relayed on local radio. I don't think it's funny at all,
I don't think it's funny the family lets a young child mess
about with personal accounts online, I don't think it's
funny the child has access and knows how to tap user

name and password into eBay. 

 

I don't think it's funny the seller now has to reclaim his
fees from eBay for the failed sale, I don't think it's funny
he has to relist the item, I don't think it's funny he now
has to contact all those other people bidding against the
prankster to tell them why the product is back up for

sale.

 

It makes me wonder, if the grandfather left his online
banking user name and password lying around or left his
account open for a while, to go to the loo, for instance, or
to answer the doorbell, would he have thought it funny if
the child emptied his bank account or changed
passwords or even closed the account? 

I don't think so!

 

Even though I don't find the story even slightly amusing,
I am very glad it happened. That's because the story is
a lesson to us all, namely never to leave our accounts
open or our eBay user name and passwords available to
all - not even for a second - and never when children
are present!

How to Sell on eBay - Keyword Research

In order to learn How to Sell on eBay you need to
understand a little about how it works from the buyers

side of things.

 

The Importance of Keywords

 

When you first log in to your eBay account you will see
the most important feature of the page, which is the
search bar. This is where potential buyers would type in
their keywords for whatever it is they are looking for.
Keywords are very important for both buyers and sellers
as they are the words or phrases which describe exactly

what is being looked for or sold.

 

The importance of keywords or phrases in learning how
to sell on eBay can't be overestimated, as these are

basically what connects the buyer with the seller.

 

When eBay searches for listings matching the keywords
you have typed into the search bar, it attempts to match
the keywords which have been entered with the words in
the titles or descriptions of items for sale, in order to
bring back the most relevant listings to your search. As
someone who is selling on eBay, if you don't have the
right keywords or phrases in your title you're missing the

main opportunity to bring traffic to your listing!

 

The Importance of Categories

 

Although relevant keywords and phrases are important
to your eBay business, they are not the only way people
search for stuff for sale. You can also browse listings by
using eBay's categories, which are just underneath the
search bar. If you click on a category it will take you to a
list of items for sale and you can further refine your
search by using the options on the left. A category
search is probably something that an impulse buyer
would use, in other words someone who is not looking
for anything specific. So if you want to learn how to sell
on eBay, you need be sure to enter your items in the

correct search category for maximum exposure.

 

Although most of your buyers will find your listings of
items to sell through a keyword search, it is important
not to underestimate the group of users who will always
prefer categories, as impulse purchases can be very
important to the overall success of your business.

eBay's Specialty Sites

 

As the name suggests specialty sites cater for buyers
with very specific demands and this could be something
that you could use to advantage as you become more

experienced at how to sell on eBay.

 

eBay Motors is exactly the same as eBay, except that it

is strictly for vehicles.

 

eBay Stores are mini-sites run off the eBay server. A
store gives you your own separate web page and url and
allows buyers to search your listings, just as they would
on a standalone website. Once again there are some
criteria to fulfill before you can start a store and this
would be something to consider after you have gained
some good feedback for your sales and more

experience of how to sell on eBay.

 

To Sum Up
If you scroll to the bottom of the Buy page on eBay, you
can click on Keywords and also on Popular Searches to
see what keywords your prospective buyers are using.
 
Whichever method of selling you eventually choose to
present your items for sale, your keyword research is the
most important aspect of learning how to sell on eBay
and get your products before millions of hungry eyes

with their credit cards in hand!
