Hello

First of all let me wish you a very happy and
profitable New Year!

With benefit of hindsight I want to let you in on some
of my own resolutions for 2008, which I will
definitely keep, as indeed I always do!

That isn't bravado or bragging, I actually do always
keep whatever resolutions I set to improve my own
personal and financial standing for the year about to
begin, it's been that since the first most important
resolution I set way back in 1979.  I was a wage slave
then and did what most people do, namely go out
drinking to celebrate Christmas and New Year with
people I didn't particularly like and would never
choose to speak to again should my dream of self-
employment ever come real.

That night, in a pub in Easington Colliery, I sat
thinking about the love of my life, the one I left at
home and in whose company I would rather be than
spend just another minute with all these two-faced
people I worked with.  That 'other' person was my
dog, Beauty, these two-faced people worked at the
same engineering factory which I eventually left just
three years later. They were also people who never
ever had a good word to say for one another during
the day and here they were slobbering over one
another just because the drink was flowing fast and
free and compliments of the company.

That's when I made my apologies and went home
swearing to stop doing what other people did just
because it's the 'done thing to do'; that was the day I
swore never to spend another night out while I had
better people waiting for me at home, and I've kept
that promise for nearly 30 years.

Does this sound familiar to you and, apart from the
fact many of you think my doggy obsession is way
OTT, don't you sometimes find yourself doing things
you don't really enjoy but you do them all the same
so no one will think you odd, so you'll get top marks
at your next appraisal, so no one will talk about you
in your absence?

It's this following the herd instinct that keeps many of
us from achieving our full potential - personally and
financially - and it's also the reason that most people
will end their working lives with little or no savings
and a meagre (if any) pension to live on the next
twenty years or so.

All of this assumes, of course, that you follow that
other golden rule about retiring when the government
thinks you should.

My total conviction that no one should be forced to
retire is down to the fact I spend lots of time looking
at American Internet sites, searching for product
ideas, looking for business role models to follow and
often finding the best role models are ten, twenty,
even thirty years old than I am (57!)

So, while we Britons are checking out new bowling
shoes and learning ballroom dancing as the Big 'R'
approaches, many Americans are programming
themselves for the most exciting and definitely most
financially rewarding period of their lives.  Once the
mortgage is gone, once the kids are self-sufficient,
once there is a small pension coming in to cover
whatever investment might be required, many
Americans use these golden years to fulfil the
ambition of a lifetime - to become self-employed.

Point made, long winded I admit, but let's accept the
herd instinct isn't the fast road to business success,
let's look at other reasons why following the crowd
isn't the best way to make hot profits on eBay:

*  Too many people selling the exact same products
leads to market saturation and low or no profits for
everyone. One of the easiest ways to fall into decline
is to look for products where other lazy people are
also looking, such as at dropshipping sites, on
dropshipping lists, by checking whatever other people
are selling on eBay and thinking the more people who
are selling a particular product the better that product
is for you to promote.  Don't get me wrong, there is
nothing wrong with dropshipping, in the right hands
dropshipping is a perfect business model but it
doesn't work where every man and his uncle are
using the exact same dropshipping companies.  By far
the better way to make money from dropshipping is to
find your own suppliers, independent of lists, web
sites, other people's eBay listings.  Check these
people out, study their products, test market a few
products on eBay, then get the supplier to sign an
exclusive agreement saying only you can sell their
products on eBay.  Not all will agree, but some will
and this is where the big money really lies.

*  Be brave, look for products that are in limited
supply or even non-existent on eBay but which might
have potentially very high demand should those
products be introduced and test marketed and later
offered via exclusive agreements with suppliers such
as mentioned earlier.  According to eBay research
experts there are certain products which potential
buyers are all but begging for in the 'Want it Now'
columns which no one is supplying.  Find out what
the hottest products are - many very under supplied
on eBay - by downloading eBay's hot products report
at

http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/whatshot.html

Don't worry that the report is largely US based, many
products can be exported from the UK to the
American site, not forgetting that many popular
products across the Pond are also in hot demand on
ebay.co.uk

*  Don't do as most people do, don't look for
products to sell, instead look for products people want
to buy.  The two are not the same and the difference
can be immense.  It was the late great Gary Halbert
who convinced people that sourcing products people
are desperate to buy is far better than looking for stuff
to sell which you merely hope people will buy!
Marketing folklore says Gary Halbert once asked a
group of marketing trainees what was the most
important thing to have for anyone selling
hamburgers.  The trainees shouted 'great meat',
'fabulous recipes', 'bigger hamburgers', 'better
sauces', and more besides. Halbert admitted these
things were important but only one thing really
mattered, and the only thing he'd ask for to make
money from hamburgers is . . .

A HUNGRY CROWD!

Now before you find out exactly how to find the
hottest products on eBay, I just wanted to tell you
about a resource that I highly recommend. It's called
The Secret Source Directory and it contains hundreds
of little-known sources for in-demand products you
could buy cheap and sell or a profit on eBay including
government auctions, liquidations and dropshippers.
What's more it has just been updated for 2008 with
loads of new entries. For full details click here.

Hot Selling Items On eBay - Find What Is In Demand
On eBay by Max Suther

If you are going to be a PowerSeller on eBay there are
a few things that you must understand. The most
important eBay selling tip I can give you is you must
know what the hot selling items on eBay are. So how
do you find what is selling on eBay?

There are several ways I use to find out what the hot
selling items on eBay are. The first way is the easiest
and fastest way. Go to eBay Pulse. eBay Pulse is a
tool that eBay provides and is a fast way to find out
what items are hot on eBay. eBay Pulse will show
you the top ten searches for every category within
eBay. Why is this important? Well before you can sell
many items on eBay you need to know what items are
in demand. When people search on eBay for a
product then this is an indication as to how much
demand there is for that item.

The more searches the more the demand for the item.
Pretty simple. Once you know what products are in
high demand then it is a matter of finding a wholesale
source for the product or a drop shipper. I prefer to
use drop shippers because they take care of handling
the inventory and shipping. All I have to do is focus
on listing and selling items. Drop shippers also give
me the opportunity to test what will sell on eBay and
at other online auctions. Since I don't have to pay for
an item until I have sold it, all I have at risk is the
listing fee. I can test hundreds of different drop ship
items for pennies a listing.

There are also some software packages that help you
find the niche items on eBay and those that are in
high demand. These software packages run between
$19 dollars and $100 dollars. I have a few of them
and use them frequently.

If you want to sell on eBay start with finding the hot
selling items. Good luck.

What Is the Best Thing to Sell on eBay? by Ruth
Hendrickson
There are more people selling on eBay today than
ever before, and the number just keeps growing. How
do all these sellers know what to sell on eBay? That is
a question many would-be eBay sellers would like to
know. Many sellers find it hard to decide what to sell
on the site. Knowing what items to sell and what
items to stay away from is an important part of a
successful eBay seller's repertoire. It's true that you
can sell virtually anything on eBay, but there are
products that are highly profitable and other products
that must practically be given away in order to sell.
It's not just the number of sellers that keeps growing
on the eBay website. The number of buyers continues
to grow as well, and there are literally millions of
buyers strolling the virtual streets of eBay looking for
products to purchase. Many of these buyers are
looking for something in particular, and eBay sellers
who know what these buyers are looking for have a
leg up on the other sellers.
The best way to decide what to sell on eBay is to do
research and find out what the buyers are looking for:
what are they searching to buy? There are several
ways for sellers to do buyer research. eBay Pulse is a
good tool to use and find out the keywords with the
most number of searches by buyers. Go to eBay Pulse
at http://pulse.ebay.com (or http://pulse.ebay.co.uk) to
see the top ten most popular searches. The most
popular searches are also given for each category.
