Hi,

It's getting close to Christmas now and most of us take
at least a few days off to plan how to make even more
money on eBay in the year ahead.  There are literally
millions of ways to do this, such as by increasing prices,
reducing operating costs, venturing into new markets,
looking for really unusual products that no-one else is
selling on eBay which you know have great market
potential.

It's always this dream of being sole seller of high
demand items that interests me most and about the only
place I ever turn to make the dream come true is the
public domain.  So my article this week, with a nice free
gift for you to ponder over the festive season, is about
using the public domain to make really great profits on
eBay.

There are so many ways to turn the public domain into
hot selling and, best of all, unique products, of which my
particular favourite area is craftwork.  So let me give you
some ideas for making public domain craftwork books
and pictures, films and other creative works, make
money for you on eBay.

#   History repeats itself, especially in the fashion world,
and many early 20th-century designs are popular today.
This means you can copy early knitting, sewing and
other craftwork patterns and submit to appropriate
magazines.  Alternatively, you could use the pattern as
the basis for a new design, perhaps incorporating
several earlier patterns and including new features of
your own.

#  For sewing and craftwork projects based on templates
and picture patterns, you can simply copy the original
item, reword the instructions and sell the product as your
own.

#  Compile a book of fancy dress outfits with patterns
and instructions for mothers to make themselves.  As a
book it could be marketed by direct mail or sold off-the-
page in craftwork and parent magazines.  It could also
be marketed to schools or sold through craftshops and
novelty suppliers as well as on eBay.

#  Compile knitting patterns for baby garments and sell
to parents and craftworkers looking for unusual
creations.  Early Victorian styles and Royal Baby
specials would be very popular today.

#  Compile a pattern book of early 1920s fashions:
knitting, sewing, embroidery, etc.  (Other decades can
be used as desired).

#  Plans for creating children's toys like dolls' houses
and sledges are immensely good sellers on eBay,
especially if you have an illustration of the completed
item to go with your reproduction plan.  If the picture isn't
there with the original out-of-copyright instructions, have
a local craftworker make one up for you.

#  The last idea works well for plans to create large and
small items for grown-ups too, such as windmills (for
gardens and to actually live in), boats (to play with or sail
away in), and so on.

Things to Make Yourself From Public Domain
Resources
***

There are literally hundreds of different things I have
seen selling on eBay which are essentially made from
books, magazines and newspapers, both old and new.

#  I bought a beautiful trinket box, made from wood,
which had a picture of a Boxer dog applied to the top,
and the whole thing glued to protect the picture and add
a lovely sheen.  The same seller uses all manner of
pictures for his trinket boxes, including early named
location street scenes, advertisements for products long
since disappeared, early movie and theatre stars, and so
on.  These pictures don't always have to be from the
public domain but I always think it's best to be safe than
sorry about using other people's artistic creations and
the best way to avoid upsetting anyone is to be sure
your items are in the public domain.

#  Another eBayer sells decoupage items, again very
early pictures and scenes, and stated to be original
items from early publications.  Decoupage is a bit of a
time-consuming art but simply means applying layers of
paper onto one another, creating a few bends and folds,
to eventually create a 3-D effect that can be mounted
and framed.

#  Jigsaw puzzles can be created from early pictures.
These can be physical items or computer desktop
puzzles which we have made ourselves and offered as
free gifts with out doggy prints and collectibles.  You
could use the original paper item to create a really
exclusive one-off product for physical items or you could
use reprints instead where the item is in the public
domain.

#  We've also seen original and reprint items laminated
and sold as tablemats for humans and animals.

#  Items in the public domain can be used to create your
own unique brand of giftwrap and gift tags.  We've seen
such items selling very well through niche market
categories such as, our favourite doggy categories,
railway memorabilia, angels, witchcraft for Halloween,
equestrian, and so on.  All you have to do is scan in your
favourite pictures, open a Word document, and
manoeuvre the pictures into place on a page of
appropriate size.  A4 works best for giftwrap and almost
any size works well for tags which can also be laminated
and cut to size.

#  Public domain items can be copied and sold to
scrapbook enthusiasts, mainly in the USA, but these
people are avid users of items for their scrapbooks and
what better to offer than one-off, unique items cut
directly from the pages of old books, magazines and
newspapers or else limited edition copies?

#  Woodwork plans are especially good sellers.  They
can be for log houses, sledges, anything, and they will
always attract a ready audience.  If they are in the public
domain you can even copy them and sell as many
copies as you like.

Breakthrough eBay Income - Uncover 4 Phenomenal
Methods to Make Money With eBay
***

Everyday, millions of people from all over the globe are
surfing the Internet to either get information or to shop.
And those who intend to shop mostly go to eBay to get
bargains and best buys. With the number of online
shoppers, you will surely not run out of prospective
buyers should you decide to sell items on eBay. Here
are the 4 phenomenal methods to make money with
eBay:

1. Sell collectibles. Collectibles are all-time hot sellers in
eBay. From cars, dolls, stamps, or coins, online
shoppers go crazy over them. As the seller, offering
collectibles in this site is one surefire way to earn more
profit.

2. Familiarize yourself with eBay's pages. Make use of
help tabs and sitemaps so you can quickly learn how to
use various tools that can help you sell better in the site.

3. Go the extra mile. Always keep your customers happy
by offering more than what they expect. For example,
take extra care when sending your items to them to
make sure that they will receive the item in good
condition. You can also include a note on the package
thanking them for doing business with you. In addition,
you can make a follow up to confirm if they have already
receive the item. Showing your concern to your buyers
will definitely take your eBay career further.

4. Analyze your competitors. Know their best strategies
in selling their items online and do better. Check their
listings and analyze how they price, describe, or promote
their products. Identify their strong points and
incorporate those on your selling strategies.

5. Offer more shipping options. Sign up with different
couriers that offer overnight shipping. This is very
appealing to most eBay shoppers knowing they can get
their items quicker.

eBay Stores, and How Products Can be Promoted
Online for a Fraction of the Cost of Auctions
***

When opening an eBay Store, the lower store tiers cost
a very small amount of start up capital per month. This
allows the work from home entrepreneur to get their foot
in the door and see if they can make money from home
selling on eBay through the online Stores program. With
each Store listing costing the Seller usually under a
dollar to list, it is easy to list a large amount of product
pennies on the dollar compared to putting the same
amount of listings in the auctions or fixed price arena.

This allows a new store to compete in the start up phase
by still using the power of eBay and the huge behemoth
that their marketing team represents. With the power of
their name online and the number of new users signing
up each day, this online sales engine can really help to
promote your product, business and store. Even when
using the mid tiers of the Stores program, it only costs
an average of $50 a month to list thousands of products
and receive custom pages which you can use to tailor to
your own marketing needs.

When a entrepreneur has a number of products in a
certain category and can group them into separate sales
"aisles" as in your average retail store, eBay Stores
presents an amazing opportunity online to promote this
product with a low average cost per click. When selling
anything online and opening a site, one of the important
things in the beginning phases is getting your url and
name out there while still keeping costs low enough to
turn a profit.

Opening a store allows the user to upload all of their
product onto the right marketplace and simply place one
or two of these items in the more costly auction or fixed
price formats to bring in the customers. Saving money
on the marketing budget can be crucial to the start of a
new business. Wasting money on too much or the wrong
type of advertising on eBay while not being educated or
figuring out the market and competition for your
particular industry is one of the worst mistakes that a
new store can make.

You need to know how the online marketplace works for
your product and what better way to do it than eBay
Stores. This allows you to find out customer response,
types of questions asked and types of prices desired on
the items before wasting money with marketing them on
the fixed price or auction marketplace where a lot of
uneducated eBayers out there lose money every day
trying to compete. Looking into the costs of a store as
opposed to simply listings items on the auctions or fixed
price category is a smart thing to do for the online
entrepreneur with a lot of product looking for a way to
market it smart.
