Welcome to another weekly update of news and
views about eBay which in the last few weeks
has been undergoing some really big changes,
primarily to its new service for sellers, called
'eBay Express'. Some of us will have received
the promotional booklet through the post and
one or two of us may already have studied and
embarked on this new feature which might best
be described as an 'eBay Shop' with extra e-
commerce features.
'eBay Express' has a shopping cart, for
instance, and sellers need at least 100 positive
feedback points before being admitted to the
system. This feedback rule helps build
confidence and gives potential buyers more
information about sellers than is possible based
on a handful of feedback points.
New scams appearing on eBay are based on
sellers gathering just enough positive feedback
points to create an illusion of safety for buyers.
Some sellers even have friends purchase goods
to build twenty or thirty positive feedback
points which researchers say forms the 'comfort
zone' for most inexperienced buyers. With
comfort zone safely bagged, scamsters then
turn their efforts to scamming people out of
thousands of pounds for non-existent high
ticket goods, commonly computers, consumer
electrical goods, even cars. Few such scams are
spotted until seven to ten days later by which
time the scamsters are well gone.
You'll find two great articles explaining 'eBay
Express' written by eBay experts later in this
newsletter.
Before that, let's look at latest research into
eBay Feedback and why sellers must work hard
to keep it clean.
Research experts at the Universities of Bonn
and Aachen analysed more than 300 auctions of
popular DVDs and concluded that one
percentage point more in feedback votes
increases buyer confidence and lifts auction
finishing prices by about four per cent.
A good reputation at eBay is 'worth its weight
in gold', according to German researchers.
And they say: 'This happens although we are
dealing with relatively small sums in the
transactions we investigated, with more
expensive products a good reputation should be
even more rewarding.'
Oh well, we knew that already didn't we? So
let's move on to learning how that positive
feedback works in relation to 'eBay Express'.
I'm sorry for any overlap between these
articles, I am not allowed to edit them and
prefer to publish both for the individual advice
each also provides.

eBay Explained: eBay Express
by MarkKenny
***
Express offers a venue for sellers to offer new
goods, at fixed prices without the need to wait
for an auction to end. Listings within eBay
Express are taken from approved business
sellers offering Buy-It-Now auctions or shop
inventory who meet the specific standards
within their auctions.
No additional fees are payable by the seller for
inclusion within eBay Express, however the
seller must offer a return policy for a minimum
of seven days unlike traditional listings on eBay
where a return policy is not mandatory.
Additionally, the seller must include a
photograph of the item within the description,
must specify reasonable postage costs and send
the item from within the UK.
Unlike eBay, eBay Express will also offer
buyers the facility to complete checkout for all
their items at once. This gives them an
advantage of paying several sellers at once
which has not previously been possible with
eBay.co.uk or eBay.com
eBay Express initially will offer goods within
Audio, TV & Electronics, Baby & Nursery,
Books, Cameras & Photo, Fashion, Lifestyle &
Accessories, Computing, Health & Beauty,
Home & Garden, Jewellery & Watches, Mobile
Phones, Music & DVDs, Video Games, Sports
& Leisure, and the Baby, Kids & Toys
category. More categories are expected to be
included at a later date.
Most experts suggest eBay is launching express
as a way to compete with Amazon, and other
online shopping sites. Recently eBay has lost
ground to such sites and they see abandoning
their auction format as a way of making up lost
ground.

online & though eBay for more than five years.

What is Ebay Express and How do I Use it?
By KarenBeasley
***
'eBay Express' is a new buying system that
eBay has introduced. It is more like a shopping
mall than an auction site. As a buyer, you can
browse all the categories that are available in
the eBay Auction site. However, all items are
fixed price, or what eBay is calling "Get It
Now".
Now, you can now add all the items you want
into one shopping cart, instead of paying for
items separately. This will definitely speed you
up if you make multiple purchases. Plus you
can compare products' prices, just as you would
on the auction site and find the best deal for
you.
There is also more buyer protection with eBay
Express. Only the Sellers with a positive
feedback greater than 100 can sell on eBay
Express. This prevents you from buying from
an inexperienced seller. Always look at the
feedback ranking of a seller. This gives you an
idea of how many transactions he or she has
done. However, it's usually an UNDERestimate
of actual transactions, because many buyers fail
to leave feedback for the seller. Rest assured
that eBay is only trying to present the buyer
with the best possible sellers.
For the Seller, eBay Express is another free
way to get your product in front of more
people. If you have a feedback of 100 or greater
and is 98% positive, and you list an item in
your store or with fixed price listing in an
auction, the item will AUTOMATICALLY
show up in eBay Express! This is even more
incentive for a Seller to open an eBay Store
because items are cheaper to list in your store
and they will show up on eBay Express for
FREE.
