Many thousands of different items are listed on eBay each day in dozens of different categories.

As you’ll discover, general categories – Collectibles, Music, Tickets and Travel – are sub-categorised,sometimes several times, ultimately to include a few select items in tight niche markets.Selling to niche markets means lower overheads, higher profits, less work, less competition, unlimited potential.

These are the current main categories on eBay.co.uk’s Home Page. Note that new categories are being added all the time, with wonderful benefits for niche marketers and others in general.

Second Generation Sub-Categories

Now look at sub-categories within
one sub-category, in this case
Collectibles > Advertising, those
sub sections being:
Chemist
Distillery/Spirits
Drinks ..
…..and stop right there because within each, exampled here ‘Drinks’, there are further categories.

Third Generation Sub-Categories

From Collectibles >Advertising>Drinks we find third generationcategories:
Coca Cola
Cocoa
Coffee/Nescafe
Pepsi
Soft Drinks
Tea/Tetley
In this case, those final generations: Coca Cola, Cocoa, Coffee/Nescafe, Pepsi, Soft Drinks, Tea/Tetley are finely tuned niche markets for which thousands of collectors exist worldwide with few specialist dealers.

Tip: Consider specialising in one or more of countless niche markets and there’s every chance you’ll be the sole eBay specialist for those products and the main provider for thousands of collectors. Better still, by specialising in tight niche market products you’ll find less competition from buyers at auctions, private sales, and similar, for your chosen product.
